History of Futsal:
  • The word "Futsal" originates from the Spanish term "futbol sala," which translates to "room football."
  • Futsal was born in the inner cities of South America and had its indoor debut at a YMCA in Montevideo, Uruguay, around 1930.
  • Juan Carlos Ceriani, an Argentinian, invented the game as a way to continue playing soccer indoors when outdoor pitches were rendered unplayable due to rain.
  • The game quickly gained popularity and was wholeheartedly embraced throughout South America.
Development in Brazil:
  • In Sao Paulo, Brazil, a similar variant of the game emerged, known as "futebol de salao."
  • The first documented Futsal leagues were established in Brazil in 1952, signaling the game's rapid growth.
  • The first international competition in Futsal took place in 1965, marking a significant milestone.
  • Futsal has become an integral part of Brazilian football culture, and many of the country's top soccer players credit their early development to playing Futsal extensively during their formative years.

"I played Futsal for two or three years before I joined Santos... Futsal was crucial in enhancing my ball control, quick thinking, passing skills... as well as dribbling, balance, and concentration. Futsal was exceptionally significant, without a doubt."

- Pelé
Three-Time World Champion (1958, 1962, and 1970)

"Futsal is an incredibly valuable tool for children to refine their skills and deepen their understanding of the game. My ball control and dribbling abilities have greatly benefited from playing Futsal."

- Ronaldinho
FIFA World Footballer of the Year (2004, 2005)
